Preparing to Paint

Over the next few days we will be reading and accessing our classmates famous painting proposals for our painting project. Until we begin painting you should be using class time to:

Read your classmates proposal comments and begin to develop a choice for a painting.
Look at the websites/videos on Acrylic Painting Color Basics.

During the week of February 2nd we will be introducing you to the acrylic paints and tools in the classroom. We will begin to practice using acrylic paints by completing some specific acrylic paint techniques. By the end of the week, we will announce the long awaited painting to be recreated.

Proposals are DUE next Friday, 1/30/09
You will be receiving a project grade. Rubrics will be available next Tuesday.

Assignment #3

Write a persuasive proposal directed toward your classmates on why your selected work of art is important enough to be chosen to be recreated for the high school media center.
Support your choice and why it is significant to the visual arts in regards to the artist, the art movement, and the painting.
Be sure to include some background information on:

The artist
The art movement
The work of art

Your post should be approximately 2 paragraphs long.
Write in complete sentences. Make sure you proofread for spelling and grammar.
Post your proposal as a comment to this assignment post.
There are resources and links for artist research on Mrs. Rowe's web page at the Laurens school site.

Assignment #2

Pick 3 works of art that you feel would be a good choice for a painting project for your class that will ultimately be hung in the high school library.
List your preferences numerically as a comment to this assignment post.

Assignment #1

Pick 5 works of art from the gallery below.
Write a comment in 3-4 sentences describing what you see.
Then pick 1 element of art and 1 principle of design and describe how the artist used it.
